SUPPORTING INTEGRATED CARE THROUGH EFFECTIVE INFORMATION GOVERNANCE AND DATA MANAGEMENT
As part of the NHS Long Term Plan local care systems are working together to deliver integrated care services. This requires structured governance processes to be put in place to ensure that data flows between organisations are both effective and lawful.
The Secondary Use Data Governance Tool (SUDGT) supports those responsible for data management and information governance across multiple organisations within integrated care systems to understand and clearly articulate how to lawfully access and use data to support secondary use activities. This will provide important content to populate robust Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and applications to access national datasets, such as the Data Access Request Service (DARS) process.
The tool provides the rationale, guidance, reference materials and templates to help care systems implement robust governance and controls for secondary uses of personal data that has undergone pseudonymisation.
The SUDGT forms part of the Local Health and Care Records (LHCR) IG framework and specifically addresses the secondary use of data required as part of journey three of the framework.
